Jiu-jitsu

Jiu-jitsu “The Gentle Art” specializes in ground fighting that relies on technique and not just strength alone. This art first gained prominence with the advent of the Ultimate Fighting Championship and other 'no-holds barred' matches. It is one of the most respected and effective grappling arts in the world and the techniques learned can easily defeat a larger opponent or attacker. Positioning, escapes/reversals, chokes, joint locking, and self defense are all taught.

Skill in the grappling range is absolutely necessary to complete your martial arts training in order to truly be able defend yourself. Training starts with students learning positions, escapes, and flowing from one position to another. Submissions are then introduced. Students will learn various arm locks, chokes (adults only), leg / knee locks, and shoulder locks.

Jiu-jitsu is a highly appealing art for everyone simply because it is effective on a larger opponent and It neutralizes an attacker's ability to do anything while allowing you to quickly end the attack with a submission.

Please note that age in the Adult classes is a recommended guideline. Students may be allowed to enroll in a class regardless of age with Sensei’s approval.

Gracie Jitsu - Brazilian Jiu Jitsu

Gracie Jiu-Jitsu was first made famous in the early 1990’s when Royce Gracie won the first ever Ultimate Fighting Championships. The general public saw for the first time, here in the United States, what the legendary Helio Gracie had been teaching his family about the ancient art of Jiu-Jitsu.

Rather than use strikes (kicks, punches etc.) to win a real fight, Jiu-Jitsu teaches the practitioner to use submission holds, defensive positioning and leverage as the means to defeating even a much larger opponent regardless of one’s size.

Jiu-Jitsu has become the most popular martial art on the planet in this past decade. Jiu-Jitsu is very popular for all age levels, women and men alike.

We are very proud to be one of the select few affiliate academies to represent The Professor Pedro Sauer Association.

Jeet Kune Do (JKD) Concepts (famous art of Bruce Lee)

In this style, we focus on Bruce Lee's concepts, his techniques, methods for fighting and approach to training. The advantage to using this style as opposed to other systems of martial arts is its totally adaptable to different student types and different situations.

These training methods are used help students prepare for any situation and since violent attacks do not always happen in desirable conditions such as outside, parties, parking lots etc. etc. it is a very effective and practical art for everyone.

The training is broken up into three areas.

Area One - Kickboxing is learned in this phase of training. The repetition and drills create a good foundation in which to build other skill sets. This class develops the basic skills necessary for a person to survive on the streets (How to properly kick and punch and also how to defend kicks, punches and common grabs.).

Area Two - In the second phase of training, standing grappling and ground control / attacks are learned. Once students have learned how to control a fight in striking range, it becomes necessary for them to become skilled and know what to do if the situation progresses to a closer distance. The students are also introduced to supervised sparring if desired. Students are encouraged to try to bridge the distance from kicking / punching and enter into standing grappling or go all the way to the ground. When they leave this phase, they will understand how and when to close the distance, takedown, and submit their opponent while on the ground.

Area Three - The final area of training concentrates on trapping range (the brief section that occurs between kicking and punching range and standing grappling). This is perhaps the most difficult phase to learn. Timing and coordination are finely tuned in this section. Sparring tremendously helps in this process and makes the student incorporate all four areas. (kicking, punching, trapping, and grappling)

By the time a student is ready to graduate from this system, they will be prepared for any attack and situation. They will know what to do and by having this knowledge they will have the upper hand against any opponent.

Target age: 13+.
